Branson Woman Opens Fire on Veterinarian for Refusing to Perform Sex Change Operation on Her Cat

Branson, MO — A local woman is in custody after allegedly shooting a veterinarian several times because the clinic would not perform a gender reassignment surgery on her male cat.

According to police, the confrontation occurred Friday afternoon at a Branson-area animal clinic. The woman, identified as 47-year-old Lisa Hargrove, became furious when veterinarians explained they could not ethically or medically transition her 9-year-old cat from male to female.

Witnesses say Hargrove demanded the clinic castrate the cat and then surgically alter it to match what she called its “true identity.” When the vet refused, she left the building, returned shortly afterward with a handgun, and opened fire on the veterinarian who had denied her request.

After the shooting, Hargrove reportedly screamed at the injured vet, “My cat needs a sex change! You’re denying her true identity and you’re killing her by keeping her in the wrong body!”

The veterinarian was struck multiple times but is expected to survive. The cat, originally named Mr. Whiskers, was unharmed and has been removed from the home.

Hargrove was arrested at the scene. Police say she told officers the clinic was committing “animal transphobia” and “veterinary hate speech” by refusing the procedure. She also claimed her cat had been identifying as female for over a year and that the refusal was an act of violence.

This shocking incident has sparked widespread outrage across the Branson area. Many residents are calling it one of the most bizarre and disturbing stories to come out of the Ozarks in recent memory.

“How do you get to the point where you shoot your vet because they won’t mutilate your cat?” one local asked. “It’s a cat. It doesn’t have a gender identity crisis. This is pure insanity.”

Others online have expressed support for Hargrove, arguing that veterinarians should respect an animal’s “chosen gender.” A small but vocal group has begun defending her actions as “standing up for trans rights in pets.”

The case has quickly gone viral, with people across the country sharing the story and debating how far extreme ideology has gone. Many are using it as an example of real-world consequences when fantasy collides with basic biology.

Hargrove faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder. She remains in custody and is reportedly demanding that her cat be transferred to a veterinarian willing to perform the requested surgery.

The injured veterinarian is recovering in the hospital. Clinic staff described the woman as increasingly agitated during the appointment and said they tried to calmly explain why the procedure was not possible.

Branson residents say the story perfectly captures how strange life can get in the area. “We’ve had floating restaurants and giant deer stopping traffic,” one neighbor said, “but shooting your vet because your cat wants to be a girl is on another level.”

This remains an ongoing investigation. Authorities have not released the full police report, but sources say Hargrove continues to insist she was justified in her actions.
