A multi-level parking garage in the heart of Branson suddenly collapsed Thursday afternoon, sending concrete slabs crashing down and destroying numerous vehicles parked inside.
The structure gave way without any apparent warning, with witnesses describing a loud rumble followed by a section of the garage pancaking onto the levels below. Multiple cars were flattened or severely damaged under the falling debris, with some vehicles completely buried.
“I was walking by when I heard this huge crash,” said one eyewitness. “Dust went everywhere. People started screaming and running. It was like something out of a disaster movie right here in Branson.”
Emergency crews responded quickly and are currently searching through the rubble. No fatalities have been confirmed so far, but several people were treated for injuries at the scene. Rescue teams are using heavy equipment to carefully remove debris and check for anyone who may have been inside vehicles at the time of the collapse.
The parking garage served several nearby hotels and attractions, meaning many tourists’ rental cars and personal vehicles were affected. Photos from the scene show twisted metal and crushed cars sticking out from under massive pieces of concrete.
City officials have not yet released a cause for the collapse, but inspectors are on site. The garage had been in use for years and was considered a key part of the area’s infrastructure during peak tourist season.
This incident has created major headaches for visitors already dealing with limited parking. Roads around the site are closed while crews work, adding to the chaos in an already busy part of town.
The collapse is the latest infrastructure scare in Branson, raising questions about the safety and maintenance of older buildings in the rapidly growing tourist area. More families are now worried about where they’re parking their vehicles while enjoying shows and attractions.
The situation remains active as rescue and recovery efforts continue. Officials say they will provide updates as they learn more about the structural failure and the full extent of the damage.
